Laboratory PPE products are disposable personal protective apparel — including shoe covers, bouffant caps, and lab coats — manufactured from non-woven polypropylene, SMS, and PE-coated materials for use in research labs, pharmaceutical facilities, and cleanroom environments rated ISO 7 and above. MBP is a registered vendor for Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Vanderbilt University, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Eurofins, and supplies labs across the United States, Canada, and internationally with PO and Quick Order procurement at mbpinc.net.

Laboratory PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) products are disposable or limited-use protective items designed to protect laboratory personnel, samples, and work environments from contamination and exposure risks. Common laboratory PPE includes shoe covers, bouffant caps, hair covers, disposable lab coats, sleeve covers, and other protective garments used in research laboratories, pharmaceutical manufacturing, clinical diagnostics, biotechnology facilities, and cleanroom environments.
Unlike general industrial PPE, laboratory PPE is specifically engineered for contamination control, low particle shedding, and compatibility with cleanroom and controlled-environment requirements. Many products are manufactured from low-lint, non-woven materials that help minimize particulate generation while providing comfort during extended wear.
Gloves – Our high-grade nitrile and latex gloves provide a sensitive yet durable barrier, ensuring your hands stay protected while maintaining the precision your research demands.
Masks – Designed for both comfort and high filtration, our masks and respirators keep you breathing easy by shielding you from airborne particulates and lab aerosols.
Caps – Maintain a sterile and contamination-free environment with our lightweight bouffant caps, designed to keep hair securely tucked away during sensitive procedures.
Shoe Covers – Keep your workspace pristine from the ground up with our durable shoe covers, perfect for preventing the tracking of outside contaminants into cleanrooms or sterile zones
Material and Protection Level
The material determines both comfort and protective performance.
Spunbond Polypropylene (PP) is lightweight, breathable, and low-linting, making it the most common choice for general laboratory use, research facilities, and controlled environments where particulate control is the primary concern.
SMS (Spunbond-Meltblown-Spunbond) fabric incorporates an additional meltblown filtration layer that improves protection against aerosols and liquid droplets. It is commonly used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, clinical laboratories, and higher-risk environments.
PE-Coated Polypropylene provides enhanced resistance to liquids and splashes, making it suitable for wet processes, chemical handling, and environments where fluid protection is required.
Tyvek® materials offer higher durability and improved chemical splash resistance, making them appropriate for specialized laboratory and hazardous material applications.
For most research laboratories and pharmaceutical quality control environments, standard polypropylene PPE is suitable for ISO 7–9 cleanroom classifications.
More stringent environments such as semiconductor manufacturing, sterile compounding pharmacies, and advanced biologics production may require cleanroom-certified PPE with enhanced particulate control, traceability, and specialized construction.
Most disposable laboratory PPE manufactured from polypropylene, SMS, or polyethylene materials is naturally latex-free, helping facilities comply with allergy-sensitive workplace policies.
When selecting products that contain elastic components, always verify latex-free certification if personnel have latex sensitivities.
Disposable PPE is often purchased in bulk to maintain consistent floor stock levels.
Shoe covers are commonly packaged in large case quantities for high-traffic controlled environments, while bouffant caps and hair covers are typically supplied in bulk packaging to support daily laboratory operations.
Facilities with predictable consumption patterns often establish routine replenishment schedules to ensure continuous PPE availability.
Shoe Covers: Prevent dirt, dust, and contaminants from being tracked into controlled environments.
Bouffant Caps and Hair Covers: Contain hair and scalp particles to reduce contamination risks in laboratories, cleanrooms, and clinical settings.
Disposable Lab Coats: Provide body protection while helping maintain clean working environments.
Sleeve Covers: Protect arms and garments during sample handling and laboratory procedures.
Spunbond Polypropylene (PP):
Provides lightweight particulate protection with excellent breathability. It is commonly used in general research laboratories and ISO 7–9 environments.
SMS Fabric:
Offers enhanced protection against aerosols and liquid droplets while maintaining reasonable comfort. Frequently selected for pharmaceutical and clinical applications.
PE-Coated Polypropylene:
Delivers liquid-resistant performance for wet processes, chemical handling, and splash-prone environments, though breathability is reduced.
Tyvek®:
Provides superior durability and chemical splash protection for demanding laboratory and industrial applications where enhanced barrier performance is required.
Laboratory PPE is typically manufactured from low-lint, non-woven materials designed to minimize particulate generation while maintaining wearer comfort. Many cleanroom-grade products are produced in controlled manufacturing environments with lot traceability to support regulatory and quality documentation requirements.
