Vortex Mixers Accessories

<h2>What are vortex mixer accessories?</h2>
&nbsp;
Vortex mixer accessories are the interchangeable cup heads, foam inserts, and platform adapters that convert a standard single-tube vortex mixer to batch-process multiple tubes or different vessel formats simultaneously. The standard single-tube cup head can be replaced with a multi-tube foam insert holding 6 to 24 microcentrifuge tubes, a tube strip or microplate adapter, or a platform-style attachment for larger vessel formats. These accessories are typically instrument-specific, using a proprietary attachment mechanism that varies between vortex mixer brands.&nbsp;

</ul>
&nbsp;
<h2>How to choose vortex mixer accessories</h2>
&nbsp;
Select foam inserts by the tube format they accommodate
Foam inserts for vortex mixers are sized to hold specific tube formats by pressing the closed tube caps into the foam at defined positions: standard microcentrifuge inserts hold 1.5 mL and 2 mL tubes, larger foam blocks accommodate 15 mL and 50 mL conical tubes, and low-profile inserts hold 0.5 mL tubes or PCR strip tubes in defined arrays. Check that the insert format matches the tube types you use most and that the insert is rated for your vortex mixer's speed range.
Confirm accessory compatibility with your vortex mixer model
Vortex mixer accessories attach via model-specific connectors &mdash; threaded onto the drive spindle or clipped onto the instrument head &mdash; and are not universally compatible between brands or models. Always check that the specific accessory is listed as compatible with your vortex mixer model before ordering.
Use a microplate adapter for 96-well plate mixing
Microplate vortex adapters replace the standard cup head with a flat or recessed platform sized to hold a standard 96-well plate, allowing entire plates to be mixed in continuous mode for ELISA plate washing steps, microplate cell resuspension, and plate-format biochemical assays. The adapter should be rated for the speed at which it will be used to prevent plate sliding.
Check that foam insert speed ratings are compatible with your operating speed
Foam inserts are rated for a maximum operating speed, and using a foam insert at speeds above its rating risks tubes not being securely retained by the foam compression at high rpm. Confirm that the insert's rated speed covers your intended operating speed before batch-processing valuable samples.
Consider a universal platform adapter for flexible use
Some vortex mixer manufacturers offer a universal platform adapter that replaces the cup head with a flat non-slip platform, accepting a wide range of vessel formats using a non-slip mat for retention. While less format-specific than a dedicated foam insert, a universal platform provides flexibility for less common vessel formats.
&nbsp;
<h2>Specifications context</h2>
&nbsp;
Foam inserts work by compressing foam around tube caps to provide frictional retention during high-speed oscillation; foam material and cell size determine tube sizes accommodated and maximum safe speed. As of 2026, inserts accommodating PCR strip tubes alongside microcentrifuge tubes in a single insert have become available, reducing the number of separate formats needed.

Centrifuge Tubes

<h2>What Are Centrifuge Tubes?</h2>
 Centrifuge tubes are cylindrical laboratory containers with caps that are used to separate, pellet, and store biological or chemical samples through centrifugal force. They are commonly made from polypropylene (PP) or polystyrene (PS) and are available in sizes ranging from small 0.5 mL microtubes to larger 50 mL conical tubes. These tubes are widely used for cell pelleting, protein precipitation, DNA and RNA extraction, tissue homogenate clarification, and long-term sample storage. Depending on the material, they can withstand temperatures from &minus;80 &deg;C to +121 &deg;C.
In short, the best centrifuge tube depends on your centrifuge rotor, required g-force, sample volume, and sterility needs.

</ul>
&nbsp;
<h2>How to Choose Centrifuge Tubes</h2>
 Volume and Rotor Compatibility
Select a tube size that matches both your sample volume and centrifuge rotor. Microtubes ranging from 0.5&ndash;2 mL are commonly used in microcentrifuges and can typically handle speeds up to 20,000 &times; g. Midi tubes in the 5&ndash;10 mL range are suitable for intermediate sample volumes, while 15 mL and 50 mL conical tubes are commonly used in clinical, research, and preparative centrifuges.
Material: Polypropylene vs. Polystyrene
Polypropylene (PP) tubes offer excellent chemical resistance and can tolerate temperatures from &minus;80 &deg;C to +121 &deg;C. They are suitable for autoclaving and exposure to many laboratory solvents. Polystyrene (PS) tubes provide superior optical clarity, making it easier to visually inspect samples and liquid levels, but they have lower resistance to solvents and extreme temperatures.
Sterility and Contamination Control
Sterile centrifuge tubes are typically gamma- or E-beam-irradiated and certified free of RNase, DNase, and pyrogens. These tubes are recommended for RNA extraction, cell culture, and clinical applications where contamination must be minimized. Non-sterile tubes may still be RNase- and DNase-free and are often suitable for routine DNA work and general sample storage.
Cap Design
Attached screw caps help prevent cap mix-ups and sample contamination, especially in high-throughput laboratories. Separate caps can be quicker to open and may be preferred in workflows that require frequent access to samples. If tubes will be used with automated systems, cap dimensions should be verified for compatibility with liquid handling equipment.
Packaging Options
Racked tubes provide convenient organization and allow direct pipetting while the tubes remain in the rack. Bulk-bagged tubes offer a more economical option for laboratories that process large volumes of samples and already have tube storage systems in place.
<h2> Comparing Common Centrifuge Tube Types</h2>
 Microtubes (0.5&ndash;2 mL) are ideal for PCR preparation, microcentrifuge applications, and storage of small sample volumes. They can generally withstand centrifugal forces up to 20,000 &times; g.
Midi tubes (5&ndash;10 mL) are designed for intermediate sample volumes such as culture supernatants and can typically tolerate forces up to 16,000 &times; g.
Sterile 15 mL conical tubes are frequently used for cell pelleting, RNA extraction, and clinical sample processing, with typical ratings between 12,000 and 15,000 &times; g.
Sterile 50 mL conical tubes are commonly selected for larger-volume applications including tissue culture work, density gradient preparation, and large-scale sample processing.
Polystyrene conical tubes in 15 mL and 50 mL formats are often chosen when visual sample inspection is important and solvent exposure is minimal.
<h2> Specifications and Features</h2>
 Polypropylene centrifuge tubes from Globe Scientific and Nest Scientific are manufactured from USP Class VI virgin resin and do not contain plasticizers or processing additives. Sterile products are typically irradiated to achieve a sterility assurance level (SAL) of 10⁻⁶. Most 15 mL tubes feature graduation marks at 1 mL intervals, while 50 mL tubes are usually graduated every 5 mL. MBP offers both bagged and racked centrifuge tube formats, including 15 mL and 50 mL conical tubes as well as smaller microtube and midi tube options.
MBP supports procurement departments by accepting purchase orders and offering institutional pricing for qualified high-volume customers. <a href="https://mbpinc.net/contact-us">Contact the MBP team today</a> for a customized quote.

Rollers & Rotators

<h2>What are tube rollers and rotators?</h2>
&nbsp;
Tube rollers and rotators are low-speed mixing instruments that provide gentle, continuous agitation of tubes and bottles through rolling or inversion motion rather than high-speed shaking. A tube roller operates by rotating horizontal rollers that the tubes or bottles rest on, causing them to roll along their long axis in place, creating slow, even mixing of the tube contents without introducing air bubbles. A rotator (end-over-end mixer) clamps tubes in a wheel or drum that rotates at 5&ndash;30 rpm, inverting the tubes repeatedly through a full circle for thorough but gentle mixing.

&nbsp;
<h2>How to choose rollers and rotators</h2>
&nbsp;
Choose a tube roller for blood collection and clinical tube mixing
Tube rollers are the standard instrument for homogenizing anticoagulated blood collection tubes before clinical testing, operating at 5&ndash;20 rpm to ensure even mixing of blood and anticoagulant without hemolysis from excessive speed. The roller format also suits other tubes and bottles that are too long for end-over-end rotation to work effectively in the space available.
Choose a rotator for antibody-bead incubations and immunoprecipitation
End-over-end rotators invert tubes through a full 360&deg; cycle, ensuring that beads settled at the tube bottom are continuously resuspended and that the bead surface is uniformly exposed to the solution throughout the incubation. This complete inversion is essential for immunoprecipitation, pull-down assays, and antibody-coupling incubations where beads must stay in suspension for efficient binding.
Consider the tube capacity and format each instrument accommodates
Tube rollers hold a fixed number of tubes of defined diameter on the roller surface; rotator wheels typically accommodate a defined set of tube positions for specific tube formats. Confirm that the instrument handles the tube diameter, length, and quantity you work with most commonly, and that accessories are available to accommodate additional formats.
Evaluate speed range against your mixing requirement
Blood sample homogenization requires gentle speed of 5&ndash;12 rpm to avoid hemolysis, while antibody-bead incubations can use faster rotation of 10&ndash;30 rpm for more active suspension maintenance. A variable-speed rotator provides flexibility across applications; a fixed-speed roller set at the correct blood mixing speed is adequate for dedicated blood handling.
Confirm whether incubator-compatible models are needed for your workflow
Rotator and roller incubations often require 37&deg;C for antibody binding or hybridization reactions. Models designed for incubator interior use have compact profiles and materials that tolerate incubator humidity and temperature, while standard bench models are not always rated for this environment.
&nbsp;
<h2>Specifications context</h2>
&nbsp;
Tube rollers used for blood sample mixing are typically operated at a fixed or low-speed range of 5&ndash;12 rpm, a range established from clinical literature showing that this rotation speed adequately homogenizes anticoagulated blood without inducing hemolysis from mechanical stress. As of 2026, compact benchtop tube rollers that fit inside standard incubators and cold rooms without taking up significant shelf space remain popular in clinical and research labs for routine sample preparation.

Storage Boxes & Racks

<h2 data-section-id="1hv97bw" data-start="0" data-end="47">What Are Laboratory Storage Boxes and Racks?</h2>
&nbsp;
Laboratory storage boxes and racks are essential organizational systems used to store, organize, and protect cryogenic vials, microcentrifuge tubes, centrifuge tubes, and microscope slides across freezers, cold rooms, and benchtop environments. Storage boxes are typically lidded, grid-based containers used for long-term sample organization in ultra-low temperature conditions, while racks are open-frame supports used for active handling during laboratory workflows such as pipetting, vortexing, and reaction setup.
Cryogenic storage boxes are commonly designed to hold 81 vials (9&times;9 format) or 100 vials (10&times;10 format), and are compatible with storage conditions ranging from &ndash;196 &deg;C in liquid nitrogen vapor phase to +121 &deg;C for autoclave sterilization (depending on material). Tube racks, on the other hand, provide stable upright positioning of tubes during active benchwork and are not primarily intended for long-term freezer storage.

&nbsp;
<h2 data-section-id="flyrii" data-start="1159" data-end="1199">How to Choose Storage Boxes and Racks</h2>
&nbsp;
Vial Format and Capacity
The first selection criterion is compatibility with tube size and grid layout. The most common format is the 81-place (9&times;9) box designed for 1.0&ndash;2.0 mL cryovials. Smaller or specialized formats may accommodate 5 mL tubes or different vial diameters depending on grid spacing. Proper matching ensures secure fit, easy retrieval, and consistent sample organization in high-density storage systems.
Temperature Range
Material selection determines allowable storage conditions. Polycarbonate cryogenic boxes are the most versatile, supporting temperatures from liquid nitrogen levels (&ndash;196 &deg;C) through &ndash;80 &deg;C freezer storage and up to autoclave sterilization at +121 &deg;C. Cardboard freezer boxes with moisture-resistant coating are designed for economical freezer storage and can withstand ultra-low temperatures, but they are not suitable for autoclaving or long-term moisture exposure.
Tube Rack Materials and Use
Polypropylene racks are widely used because they are autoclavable and chemically resistant, making them suitable for sterile workflows. ABS and polystyrene racks provide lower-cost alternatives for general laboratory bench use but are not designed for autoclave conditions. For freezer organization, stainless steel racks are often used to hold multiple cryoboxes within &ndash;80 &deg;C upright freezer systems, improving accessibility and spatial organization.
Slide Storage Boxes
Microscope slide storage boxes are designed to protect standard 25 &times; 75 mm slides. They are available in 25-, 50-, and 100-slide capacities. Polypropylene versions are autoclavable and suitable for sterilized workflows, while fiberboard or ABS versions are typically used for room-temperature archival storage and transport.
Color Coding and Sample Identification
Color-coded storage boxes are widely used in biobanking and high-throughput laboratories to quickly differentiate sample groups without opening boxes or reading labels at freezer temperatures. Common systems include multiple lid colors paired with alphanumeric grids inside the box, enabling precise sample tracking and retrieval in large inventories.
&nbsp;
<h2 data-section-id="1jl751w" data-start="4067" data-end="4092">Specifications Context</h2>
&nbsp;
Modern polycarbonate cryogenic storage boxes are engineered for extreme temperature stability, typically rated from &ndash;196 &deg;C to +121 &deg;C, allowing use across liquid nitrogen vapor phase storage, &ndash;80 &deg;C freezers, and autoclave sterilization cycles. Cardboard freezer boxes are coated to resist moisture ingress and are optimized for cost-efficient high-density storage in ultra-low temperature environments.
The 81-place (9&times;9 grid) polycarbonate cryobox remains the standard format in most biorepositories and clinical research facilities due to its compatibility with SBS footprint freezer systems and automated inventory tracking workflows. These systems are widely used in genomics, cell banking, and pharmaceutical research environments.

Microscope Accessories

<h2>What Are Microscope Accessories?</h2>
&nbsp;
Microscope accessories are supplementary components that configure, upgrade, or expand the function of a base microscope beyond its standard out-of-the-box specification. They fall into several categories: imaging accessories (cameras, camera adapters, camera relay lenses) for digital image capture and video documentation; optical accessories (additional or replacement objective lenses, eyepieces, auxiliary objectives for stereo microscopes) that change magnification or improve optical quality; fluorescence accessories (filter cube sets, LED fluorescence modules, mercury lamp adapters, UV/visible filter wheels) for adding or expanding fluorescence capability; stage accessories (multiwell plate holders, slide holders, cross-roller stages, motorized XY stage inserts, focus drives) that expand sample handling; illumination accessories (fiber optic illuminators, ring lights, polarizers, dark-field condensers) for alternative contrast methods; and maintenance and consumable accessories (immersion oil, lens paper, slide cleaning kits, replacement illuminator bulbs). Because accessory designs are instrument-specific (not all cameras, objectives, or stage inserts are universally compatible), identify the microscope model and manufacturer before ordering any accessory. Always identify the exact microscope model and manufacturer before ordering any accessory; thread standards, bayonet mounts, tube lengths, and connector formats vary significantly between brands and generations.

&nbsp;
<h2>How to Choose Microscope Accessories</h2>
&nbsp;
Digital cameras and adapters
Microscope cameras attach to the trinocular port (or monocular camera port on some models) via a C-mount camera adapter with an integrated relay lens. The relay lens magnification (typically 0.35x, 0.5x, or 1x) determines the effective field of view on the camera sensor. Choose a CMOS camera with 5 to 20 megapixels for brightfield documentation and routine fluorescence; scientific CMOS (sCMOS) or cooled CCD cameras for low-light fluorescence quantification. Confirm the camera software is compatible with the microscope's control software (if motorized).
Objective lenses
Replacement or additional objectives must match the microscope's objective thread standard and tube length (160 mm finite or infinity-corrected). Never mix finite-optics and infinity-corrected objectives on the same nosepiece; the image-forming properties are incompatible. Plan-apochromat objectives in the same brand family as the microscope are the safest choice for optical performance and parfocality with the existing objective set.
Fluorescence filter cube sets
Fluorescence filter cubes contain an excitation bandpass filter, a dichroic mirror, and an emission bandpass filter, which are the three components that define which fluorescent dye or protein is imaged. Common filter sets: DAPI (Ex 360/40, Di 400LP, Em 460/50); FITC/GFP (Ex 470/40, Di 495LP, Em 525/50); TRITC/mCherry (Ex 550/25, Di 565LP, Em 605/70); Cy5 (Ex 620/60, Di 660LP, Em 700/75). Confirm the cube block type (Olympus U-MF2, Nikon B-2A, Zeiss 38HE, or other) matches the filter cube turret of the specific microscope model.
Stage inserts and sample holders
Stage inserts expand sample compatibility: multiwell plate holders (96-well, 384-well, 6-well) for high-content imaging; glass-bottom dish holders for live-cell imaging with oil-immersion objectives; slide holder adapters for larger or smaller slide formats; and universal stage inserts for non-standard containers. Confirm the stage insert dimensions match the microscope's mechanical stage cutout and that the height profile is compatible with the condenser working distance for transmitted illumination.
LED fluorescence modules
LED fluorescence modules replace or augment mercury arc lamps in the fluorescence port of existing microscopes, providing individual LED channels for DAPI, GFP, TRITC, and Cy5 excitation. LED upgrades are available as bolt-on add-ons for many research-grade inverted and upright microscopes and significantly extend the fluorescence illumination service life from 200 to 300 hours (mercury) to 50,000+ hours (LED). Confirm the LED module's mounting standard and control interface (USB, TTL, or software-triggered) is compatible with the microscope.
&nbsp;
<h2>Specifications Context</h2>
&nbsp;
Immersion oil for oil-immersion microscopy must match the refractive index for which the objective is designed; standard immersion oil has a refractive index of 1.515 at 23 degrees C (per ASTM and DIN standards). Using oils with different refractive indices introduces spherical aberration. Viscosity matters for the application: low-viscosity oils (Type A, 150 mPas) spread easily and are used for fast scanning; high-viscosity oils (Type B, 1250 mPas) resist creep at elevated stage temperatures. Clean all residual immersion oil from objectives immediately after each use with lens tissue dampened with appropriate lens cleaning solution; dried immersion oil is difficult to remove and can permanently damage the objective coating.&nbsp;

Test Tubes

<h2 dir="ltr">What are Test Tubes?</h2>
 Test tubes for laboratory use are open-ended, cylindrical glass or plastic tubes used to hold, mix, incubate, and heat liquid and solid samples across a broad range of applications: bacteriological culture, tissue culture, clinical chemistry, serological assays, immunology, and general sample processing. Choose borosilicate glass for reusable, high-temperature, or chemically demanding applications; choose polystyrene disposable 12&times;75 mm tubes for flow cytometry and colorimetric assays; choose polypropylene capped tubes for microbial culture with anaerobic or gas-generating organisms.

<h2 dir="ltr">How to Choose Test Tubes</h2>
 Material: Glass vs. Polypropylene vs. Polystyrene Borosilicate glass 3.3 (ASTM E438 Type I, Class B) test tubes withstand direct flame, autoclave sterilization at 121 &deg;C, and most solvents, acids, and bases. They are reusable and autoclavable, making them cost-effective over high-volume laboratory runs. Polystyrene (PS) disposable tubes offer outstanding optical clarity for flow cytometry (FACS), cell counting, and OD-based colorimetric assays, but cannot be autoclaved and should not be used with aromatic solvents or strong acids. Polypropylene (PP) tubes are chemically resistant, autoclavable, and available with screw caps for anaerobic culture or gas-generating reactions. Rimmed vs. Rimless Rimless test tubes (fire-polished ends) allow easier insertion of rubber or silicone stoppers and are preferred for plugging with cotton wool for microbial culture. Rimmed tubes have a flared lip that facilitates pouring and is compatible with spring-metal tube closures. Confirm your closure type before ordering in bulk. Size and Volume The most common test tube dimensions in clinical and research labs: 12&times;75 mm: ~5 mL capacity; standard for flow cytometry, FACS, serology 13&times;100 mm: ~10 mL; general culture and chemistry 16&times;100 mm: ~14 mL; culture and chemistry 16&times;125 mm: ~17 mL; microbiological culture 18&times;150 mm: ~25 mL; larger-volume digests and culture Wall thickness of 1.2 mm (light wall, borosilicate 3.3) is the standard for general lab use; heavy-wall versions are used for digestions and applications involving vacuum or pressure. Sterile vs. Non-Sterile Sterile borosilicate glass culture tubes (individually wrapped or bulk-sterilized) are required for microbial culture, cell culture, and any application where contamination would invalidate the result. Non-sterile tubes are adequate for chemistry, spectroscopy, and other abiotic applications. Disposable PS tubes from Corning (PYREX&trade;) and Globe Scientific are supplied sterile or non-sterile; confirm the specification on the lot certificate.
<h2 dir="ltr"> Specifications Context</h2>
 Borosilicate glass 3.3 test tubes have a linear thermal expansion coefficient of 3.3 &times; 10⁻⁶ K⁻&sup1;, providing resistance to thermal shock from room temperature to 300 &deg;C (direct flame) and from 0 to 121 &deg;C (autoclave cycles). Light-wall tubes (1.2 mm uniform wall thickness) provide the standard for general laboratory use; heavy-wall variants (2.0 mm) are used for digestion vessels and pressurized applications. Corning PYREX&trade; disposable round-bottom rimless glass tubes for tissue culture conform to ASTM standards and are the reference format for bacteriological serology and cell wash procedures. MBP supplies Globe Scientific and NEST Scientific test tube lines for research and clinical labs across the USA, Canada, and worldwide. &nbsp;
