What Are Large Volume Centrifuge Tubes?

Large volume centrifuge tubes are polypropylene conical-bottom vessels available in 250 mL and 500 mL formats, designed for preparative and process-scale centrifugation at speeds of up to 6,000–7,500 × g in compatible swing-bucket or fixed-angle rotors. Choose 250 mL tubes when process volumes per tube run 150–240 mL — overfilling beyond ~80% of rated volume risks spill and cap failure. 500 mL tubes are used for volumes from 300–480 mL, common in vaccine and viral vector production, large-scale mammalian cell culture harvest, and preparative density-gradient centrifugation.
