PETG Bottle Accessories

What are PETG Bottles with Accessories?

PETG bottles with accessories are sterile, closed-system liquid storage and transfer assemblies combining a square PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified) media bottle with a bi-directional transfer cap pre-fitted with TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) tubing and a terminal connector — Luer lock (male or female) or CPC (clamped pressure connector). The closed system allows aseptic media, serum, buffer, or pharmaceutical intermediate transfer between containers without open-pour steps, substantially reducing contamination risk and compliance burden in cGMP-regulated and BSL-2 laboratory environments. Choose PETG bottle assemblies for any liquid transfer workflow requiring an aseptic closed system — cGMP media dispensing, FBS aliquoting under sterile barrier, viral vector transfer, or pharmaceutical intermediate handling where open-pour steps are prohibited by SOP or regulatory requirement.

How to Choose PETG Bottle Assemblies

Connector Type: Luer Lock vs. CPC Female Luer lock connectors (catalog 352503, 352506 series) mate with male Luer tips on syringe filters, tubing sets, and sterile sampling devices — the most common connector for inline sterile sampling and small-volume aseptic transfer. Male Luer lock connectors fit female Luer receptacles on peristaltic pump tubing and fluid path assemblies. CPC (clamped pressure connector, also called quick-connect) connectors provide a tool-free, dry-disconnect coupling between two fluid lines without dripping — used in bioreactor harvest lines, media feed assemblies, and bioprocess fluid path management. Tubing Size: 1/8" vs. 1/4" I.D. NEST assemblies are available with 60 cm TPE tubing in 1/8" I.D. × 1/4" O.D. (for low-flow, small-volume transfer with syringe or peristaltic pump at low speed) or 1/4" I.D. × 3/8" O.D. (for higher-flow transfer with standard peristaltic pumps). The 3/8" O.D. tubing is the standard for most bioprocess peristaltic pumps. Confirm pump head bore size against tubing O.D. before ordering. Bi-Directional vs. Standard Cap The bi-directional transfer cap in NEST PETG assemblies has a dual-port design: one port connects to the TPE transfer tubing (outflow or inflow path), and the cap as a whole seals the bottle neck during the non-transfer state. This design allows the bottle to function both as a source vessel (liquid out via tubing) and a receiver vessel (liquid in via tubing) without changing the cap assembly. Confirm whether your process requires one-way or two-way transfer before selecting the assembly format. Volume Options NEST PETG bottle assemblies are available in 250 mL, 500 mL, and 1,000 mL volumes, matching standard media, sera, and buffer kit sizes. The 250 mL assembly is standard for small-volume cGMP process sampling; 500 mL and 1,000 mL assemblies suit bulk media dispense and FBS aliquoting at scale. Standard Bottle vs. Assembly For applications that do not require tubing or connectors — routine cold storage of media, FBS thaw, and buffer archiving — standard NEST PETG square bottles with HDPE screw caps (catalog 352xxx without accessories) are available at a lower cost. The accessory assembly format is only necessary when closed-system transfer between containers is required.

PETG Square Bottles

What are PETG Square Media Bottles?

PETG square media bottles are single-use, sterile, square-footprint containers manufactured from glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate (PETG) for storing tissue culture media, fetal bovine serum, PBS, HBSS, buffers, pharmaceutical intermediates, and pH-sensitive aqueous solutions. The square profile reduces cold-room and refrigerator footprint by approximately 25% compared to equivalent-volume round bottles, and flat sides prevent rolling during transport. PETG square bottles are the correct choice over PET when low-temperature stability to −80 °C is needed, when wall durability under cold-room handling is critical, or when closed-system accessory cap assemblies will be used for aseptic liquid transfer.

How to Choose PETG Square Media Bottles

PETG vs. PET vs. PC PETG and PET are chemically similar but differ in crystallinity. PETG's glycol modification reduces polymer crystallinity, improving impact resistance, flexibility, and low-temperature stability. PETG is rated from −80 °C to +60 °C; PET from −60 °C to +60 °C; PC from −135 °C to +135 °C. PETG and PET are both BPA-free and non-autoclavable. PC is autoclavable but BPA-containing. For low-temperature archival storage of serum, enzymes, and viral stocks below −60 °C, PETG is the appropriate single-use choice. Volume Selection by Application The 30 mL and 60 mL bottles suit single-use serum aliquots, enzyme dilutions, and small-scale media preparation for T25 or T75 flasks. The 125 mL and 250 mL formats cover standard T75 and T175 media changes. The 500 mL bottle aligns with standard FBS lot sizes and 500 mL media kit volumes. The 1,000 mL bottle stores a full 1 L media preparation or 1 L FBS aliquot. Each bottle includes 15% headspace above nominal volume for expansion during freezing and thawing. Graduated Markings: Molded vs. Printed NEST Scientific PETG square bottles feature molded graduations (not printed), which remain legible through repeated freeze-thaw cycles, solvent exposure, and autoclave label-remover use. Printed graduations on competing formats can abrade or smear over time. Molded graduations are an important quality checkpoint when selecting PETG bottles for long-term archival. Cap Design NEST PETG square bottle caps are HDPE, designed through a one-shot mold process without an inner gasket. The gasket-free design eliminates a potential leachable point and produces a tighter, more consistent seal under the torque applied during manual capping in a cold room or gloved biosafety cabinet environment. The external collar design provides a secure grip for easy sealing under gloves. Double-Bagged GMP Packaging NEST PETG square media bottles are available in double-bagged sterile packaging, meeting material entry requirements for GMP cleanrooms and ISO-classified bioprocess areas. Each inner bag is heat-sealed; the outer bag provides additional sterility protection against outer packaging damage during courier transit. Standard Bottle vs. Accessory Assembly For routine media and serum cold storage, standard PETG square bottles with HDPE screw caps are the appropriate, cost-effective format. When closed-system aseptic liquid transfer between containers is required — cGMP media dispensing, viral stock aliquoting, pharmaceutical intermediate handling — choose NEST PETG bottles with bi-directional transfer cap assemblies (TPE tubing + Luer lock or CPC connector).

Specifications Context

NEST Scientific PETG square media bottles are manufactured from 100% virgin PETG resin in ISO 8 (Class 10,000) cleanrooms. Both PET and PETG materials meet USP Class VI and USP <661> biocompatibility requirements and ISO 10993 quality system standards per NEST lot certificates. E-beam sterilization achieves SAL 10⁻⁶. Smooth inner surface minimizes liquid residue on the wall. Operating temperature: −80 °C to +60 °C. HDPE cap is heavy-metal-free per regulatory testing. Shelf life: 3 years from production month. As of 2026, NEST Scientific is ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485 certified with FDA registration.

Externally Threaded Cryogenic Vials

What Are Externally Threaded Cryogenic Vials?

Externally threaded cryogenic vials have the screw thread on the outside of the vial neck, with a cap that covers the entire top portion of the vial when closed. Manufactured from cryogenic-grade virgin polypropylene, these vials are designed to withstand temperatures from −196°C to +121°C and are commonly used for long-term storage of cell lines, serum, blood, DNA, RNA, bacterial cultures, and other biological samples. Available in volumes ranging from 1.2 mL to 5 mL, they are offered in both self-standing and round-bottom formats. Unlike internally threaded vials, external-thread designs use an integrated sealing system rather than a separate O-ring, helping reduce handling issues. For automated decapping systems, high-throughput biobanking, and SBS-format robotic workflows, externally threaded vials are the preferred format.

How to Choose Externally Threaded Cryogenic Vials

Volume
The 2 mL externally threaded vial is the industry standard for cell banking, serum aliquots, and general biospecimen storage. It fits standard 81-well cryo boxes and is suitable for most laboratory applications. Smaller 1.2–1.5 mL vials are ideal for high-density storage where space efficiency is important, while larger 3–5 mL formats are commonly used for tissue samples, bacterial glycerol stocks, and larger-volume specimens.
Base Style: Self-Standing vs. Round Bottom
Self-standing vials feature a star-foot or conical base that allows them to stand upright on laboratory benches without requiring a rack, reducing the risk of spills during handling. Round-bottom vials require rack support but often offer broader compatibility with different storage racks and cryo box configurations.
Barcoding: Plain vs. 2D Barcoded
Standard externally threaded vials include a writable surface for manual labeling and are suitable for small to medium-sized sample collections. For large biobanks and automated sample management systems, 2D barcoded vials provide Data Matrix codes that can be scanned directly into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), improving traceability and reducing manual data entry errors.
Sterility and Purity
Cryogenic vials intended for cell culture, molecular biology, and clinical research should be gamma sterilized and certified RNase-free, DNase-free, non-pyrogenic, and endotoxin-free. These certifications help protect sample integrity and reduce contamination risks during long-term storage.

Specifications Context

Externally threaded polypropylene cryogenic vials are designed for vapor-phase liquid nitrogen storage and ultra-low temperature freezers. The standard outer diameter of a 2 mL vial is approximately 12.5 mm, making it compatible with most 81-well cryo box formats. Modern external-thread designs use integrated thermoplastic elastomer sealing systems that eliminate the need for separate O-rings, reducing the possibility of seal misalignment or loss during routine handling. As of 2026, externally threaded 2 mL vials with SBS-compatible footprints and 2D barcodes are widely used in large-scale biobanking and sample repository applications.
Your research is priceless. Your storage should be equally reliable. Connect with Molecular Biology Products Inc. for a personalized quote.

Internally Threaded Cryogenic Vials

What Are Internally Threaded Cryogenic Vials?

Internally threaded cryogenic vials feature screw threads located inside the vial neck, allowing the cap to sit within the vial opening rather than wrapping around the exterior. A silicone O-ring in the cap compresses against the vial rim when tightened, creating a secure, leak-resistant seal that remains stable at ultra-low temperatures down to −196°C.
Because the external surface of the vial neck remains smooth, internally threaded designs help reduce contamination risk and improve handling in biosafety cabinets and clean laboratory environments. They are commonly used for long-term storage of biological samples, including cell lines, serum aliquots, and microbial stocks.

How to Choose Internally Threaded Cryogenic Vials

Volume selection The 2.0 mL format is the most widely used for cell banking, serum aliquots, and general biostorage due to its balance between capacity and rack compatibility. Smaller volumes are used for high-density storage, while larger formats support tissue samples and high-volume biological materials.
O-ring material Silicone O-rings are preferred because they maintain elasticity and sealing performance across cryogenic and autoclave temperature ranges. This ensures consistent leak protection during freezing and thawing cycles.
Self-standing vs round-bottom Self-standing vials feature a stable base for bench handling without racks, improving workflow efficiency during labeling and aliquoting. Round-bottom vials require racks but are compatible with a wider range of storage systems.
Autoclavability Most polypropylene vials with silicone O-rings are autoclavable at 121°C, but material compatibility should always be confirmed before sterilization to avoid deformation or seal failure.

Specifications Context

Internally threaded cryogenic vials are typically manufactured from high-grade polypropylene and are designed for storage temperatures down to −196°C in liquid nitrogen vapor or phase. Many are certified RNase-free, DNase-free, non-pyrogenic, and endotoxin-free to support molecular biology and clinical applications.
They are compatible with standard cryobox formats and are widely used in biobanking, GMP storage, and long-term specimen preservation workflows where sample integrity and traceability are essential.

How to Choose Erlenmeyer Flask Accessories

Vented Caps: Standard vs. Oversized Membrane Standard vented Erlenmeyer caps have a 0.22 µm PTFE membrane in a small-diameter HDPE housing. NEST Scientific vented caps feature an oversized membrane area that increases the gas exchange surface, supporting higher oxygen mass transfer for dense suspension cultures at elevated shaker speeds. At 150 RPM with 20–25% fill, NEST oversized vented caps provide sufficient oxygen transfer for mammalian suspension cultures at densities up to approximately 5 × 10⁶ cells/mL. For cultures targeting densities above 10 × 10⁶ cells/mL in a standard shake flask format, a sparged bioreactor system is more appropriate. Plug Seal Caps: Autoclave vs. Non-Autoclave HDPE plug seal caps for NEST PC Erlenmeyer flasks are compatible with autoclave cycles at 121 °C when loosened 1–1.5 turns before autoclaving to prevent steam pressure buildup. Plug seal caps for NEST PETG flasks are compatible with static incubation and transport but not autoclaving (PETG maximum temperature: +60 °C). Confirm whether your accessory cap is rated for autoclave use before including it in a steam sterilization cycle. Transfer Cap Assemblies for Closed-System Culture NEST customized transfer cap assemblies combine an Erlenmeyer-compatible cap body with a bi-directional transfer port, TPE tubing, and a Luer lock or CPC connector — enabling aseptic inoculation, sampling, or media addition to a running shake flask culture without opening the flask. This closed-system capability is used in cGMP process development, GMP seed train management, and contamination-critical research workflows. Transfer caps are available in sizes matching NEST 125 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL, 1,000 mL, 2,000 mL, and 3,000 mL flask neck formats. Cap Sizing and Flask Compatibility Erlenmeyer flask caps are sized to the neck thread diameter of the flask. NEST Scientific PC and PETG Erlenmeyer flasks use proprietary screw-thread neck dimensions — confirm the specific cap catalog number matches your flask's neck size before ordering replacement caps. Do not mix cap brands across flask brands without verifying thread compatibility; mismatched caps create gas leaks at the vent membrane, contaminating cultures. Replacement Cap Frequency for Reusable PC Flasks For reusable PC flasks, replace the vented cap after each culture run to prevent membrane clogging from media splatter, condensation, and biofilm formation on the PTFE membrane. Reusing a contaminated or clogged vent membrane reduces gas exchange efficiency, creating a DO deficit that depresses cell growth without a visible contamination event. NEST vented caps for PC flasks are available in bulk packs for cost-efficient per-run replacement.

Specifications Context

Serological Pipettes

What Are Aspirating Pipettes?

Aspirating pipettes are single-use polystyrene or polypropylene pipettes supplied without graduation marks or filter plugs, intended for vacuum-assisted removal of spent media, wash buffers, and supernatants from tissue culture vessels and plates. Their key distinction from serological pipettes is the absence of calibrated graduation marks — they are not used to measure volumes but to remove liquid efficiently and without contamination risk. They are used in conjunction with vacuum aspiration systems (benchtop vacuum pumps, Accuris ASPIRE) or handheld aspirators in cell culture workflows. Polystyrene construction is transparent for visual confirmation of aspiration; polypropylene Plasteur-type pipettes offer greater chemical resistance for non-standard reagents. Use aspirating pipettes for media removal; they are cheaper per unit, require no volume reading, and are optimised for rapid vacuum removal.

How to Choose Aspirating Pipettes

Diameter: 1 mL vs 2 mL vs Pasteur-equivalent 1 mL and 2 mL aspirating pipettes have narrow-bore tips suitable for aspirating from 96-well plates, 24-well plates, and culture dishes without disturbing cell monolayers. Larger-bore aspirating pipettes (equivalent to 10–25 mL serological body diameter) are used for rapid media removal from T-flasks and roller bottles. Pasteur-equivalent plastic aspirating pipettes replace glass Pasteur pipettes for routine vacuum aspiration without breakage risk. Individual Wrapping vs Bulk Packaging Individually wrapped aspirating pipettes maintain sterility per unit and are required for cleanroom and BSC work where contamination of unused pipettes would be unacceptable. Bulk-packed formats (100–200 per bag) reduce per-pipette cost for high-volume media removal workflows where the BSC environment maintains sterility adequately. Plastic/Plastic Wrap vs Paper/Plastic Wrap Plastic/plastic individually wrapped pipettes eliminate particulate generation from paper wrapping — recommended for workflows where paper fibres could contaminate sensitive cultures or downstream applications such as RNA extraction. Compatibility with Aspiration Systems Confirm the aspirating pipette outside diameter matches the vacuum aspiration system's cone adapter. Systems such as the Rainin QuickFlow, Integra VACUSAFE, and BrandTech BVC accept standard serological and aspirating pipette diameters; the Accuris ASPIRE uses 200–300 µL pipette tip adapters for small-volume aspiration and Pasteur pipette adapters for larger volumes. Purity Certification Aspirating pipettes for cell culture and RNA work should be certified sterile, DNase-free, RNase-free, non-pyrogenic, and non-cytotoxic. These pipettes provide sterility assurance level, endotoxin-free assurance, non-cytotoxicity assurance, and RNase/DNase-free assurance with every case.

Specifications Context

Aspirating pipettes are manufactured from optically clear virgin polystyrene (standard) or polypropylene (Plasteur-type) in Class 100,000 cleanroom conditions. Sterility: individually wrapped pipettes are EO-sterilised to SAL 10⁻⁶. Purity certifications per lot: sterility, non-pyrogenic, non-cytotoxic, DNase-free, RNase-free.
How to Choose Cell Culture Plates

Well Count by Application Scale 6-well plates (9.4 cm²/well) are the standard for transfection, siRNA knockdown, Western blot sample preparation, luciferase reporter assays, and colony counting — any protocol that requires ≥5 × 10⁶ cells per condition. 12-well plates (3.8 cm²/well) support medium-scale culture for ELISA lysate preparation, flow cytometry staining, and viral infection studies. 24-well plates (1.9 cm²/well) are versatile for drug dose-response at medium throughput, primary cell culture, and viral plaque assays. 48-well plates (0.95 cm²/well) bridge 24-well and 96-well scale for intermediate throughput experiments. 96-well plates (0.32 cm²/well) are the workhorse for high-throughput cell viability (MTS, MTT, CCK-8), cytotoxicity, ELISA, reporter gene, and compound screening assays. 384-well plates are used for ultra-high-throughput screening (HTS), where reagent cost per well drives miniaturization. TC-Treated vs. Non-Treated vs. Glass Bottom TC-treated (vacuum plasma–treated, contact angle <10°) flat-bottom plates support adherent mammalian cell monolayer formation — required for HeLa, HEK293 (adherent), CHO-K1, Vero, A549, MCF-7, and primary cells. Non-treated plates maintain a hydrophobic surface that prevents attachment — used for suspension cell lines (Jurkat, K562, HL-60), hybridoma culture, and spheroid/organoid formation in U-bottom wells. Glass-bottom plates combine a polystyrene plate body with a borosilicate coverglass floor (0.16–0.19 mm thickness), matching the No. 1.5 coverglass standard required for confocal, TIRF, and super-resolution microscopy. Flat vs. Round (U) vs. V-Bottom Well Geometry Flat-bottom wells provide a flat imaging surface for phase-contrast and fluorescence microscopy, uniform cell monolayer coverage, and reliable OD measurements in plate readers. Round (U)-bottom wells concentrate cells and particles to the well centre by gravity — used for rosette assays, hemagglutination inhibition (HAI), and hanging-drop spheroid culture. V-bottom wells have a sharp vertex that pellets cells tightly for wash steps in flow cytometry and immunophenotyping panels. Plate Lid and Evaporation Management NEST Scientific cell culture plates ship with a clear polystyrene lid. For high-throughput assays running 72–96 hours, edge-well evaporation in 96-well and 384-well formats can introduce artefacts; NEST Low Evaporation EDGE plates have an inter-wall design that reduces edge-well evaporation by maintaining humidity in the peripheral wells during long incubations.

Specifications Context

What are TC-Treated Cell Culture Plates?

TC-treated (tissue culture–treated) cell culture plates are sterile, single-use multi-well polystyrene plates whose well surfaces have been modified by vacuum plasma treatment to introduce negatively charged oxygen-containing groups (carboxyl, carbonyl, hydroxyl), reducing the water contact angle from ~75–90° (untreated PS) to below 10° (hydrophilic). This surface modification directly enables attachment, spreading, and monolayer formation of adherent mammalian cell lines. TC-treated plates are the default format for all adherent mammalian cultures, cell-based assays, ELISA preparation, compound cytotoxicity screening, transfection, and gene expression studies.

How to Choose TC-Treated Cell Culture Plates

Well Format by Cell Number and Assay Type 6-well TC-treated plates (9.4 cm²/well) are the standard for Western blot preparation, siRNA transfection, viral infection, protein overexpression, and colony-forming unit (CFU) assays requiring ≥3 × 10⁶ cells per condition. 12-well plates (3.8 cm²/well) suit medium-scale reporter assays, luciferase quantification, and ELISA from cell lysate. 24-well plates (1.9 cm²/well) are versatile for cytotoxicity dose-response in 4–6 conditions per plate, primary cell experiments, and viral plaque assays. 96-well flat-bottom TC-treated plates (0.32 cm²/well) are the universal format for cell viability (MTS, MTT, CCK-8), compound screening, ELISA, reporter gene assays, and qPCR lysate preparation across 8–12 concentrations with triplicate wells. 384-well plates reduce reagent cost per compound for HTS drug discovery programs. Lot-to-Lot TC Treatment Consistency For longitudinal drug screening, biomarker validation, or multi-site studies, lot-to-lot variation in TC treatment can alter cell attachment density, proliferation rate, and assay Z-factor. NEST Scientific verifies vacuum plasma treatment by water contact angle goniometry on each manufacturing lot; the release criterion is contact angle <10°. Request lot certificates when adopting TC-treated plates for GLP- or GMP-regulated assay workflows. Low-Evaporation EDGE Plates For 96-well dose-response assays running 72–96 hours, peripheral (edge) well evaporation can increase medium osmolality in the outer ring by 10–20% versus inner wells, introducing a systematic bias in IC50 determinations. NEST Low Evaporation EDGE 96-well TC-treated plates use an internal well ridge design that reduces edge-well evaporation during extended incubations. Use EDGE plates for any dose-response study where incubation time exceeds 48 hours. Cell Line Compatibility TC-treated NEST plates support attachment and monolayer culture of: HeLa (cervical), HEK293 (adherent), A549 (lung), MCF-7 (breast), U2OS (bone), CHO-K1 (ovary, adherent), Vero (kidney), MDCK (canine kidney), NIH 3T3 (mouse fibroblast), MRC-5, 2BS, 293T, L-929, and standard primary cultures including dermal fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells. Do NOT use TC-treated plates for Jurkat, K562, HL-60, suspension CHO-S, hybridomas, Sf9, Hi5, or any non-adherent cell line. Plate Reader and Automation Compatibility NEST Scientific TC-treated 96-well flat plates are compatible with all common microplate readers (BioTek Synergy H1, Molecular Devices SpectraMax i3x, PerkinElmer EnVision, BMG Labtech CLARIOstar) for absorbance, fluorescence intensity, and luminescence detection. Plates conform to ANSI/SLAS 1-2004 through 4-2004 SBS dimensions for automated liquid handlers (Tecan Fluent, Hamilton STAR, Beckman Coulter Biomek i7).
