Urinalysis Slide

What Are Urinalysis Slides?

Urinalysis slides are precision counting chamber slides designed for standardized microscopic examination of urine sediment. Unlike conventional wet mounts prepared under a standard coverslip, which produce variable and non-reproducible sample depths, urinalysis slides deliver a fixed, calibrated volume for consistent sediment counting and reporting.
Globe Scientific Quick-Read urinalysis slides contain integrated counting chambers, each holding a fixed volume of 6.3 µL, with 10 chambers per slide. These chambers are available in two main formats: Precision Cell (with counting circles) and Precision Grid (with a structured grid). The standardized design ensures reproducibility for clinical reporting, quality control trending, and proficiency testing workflows. These slides are recommended whenever urine sediment counts must be consistent and comparable across users or laboratories.

Counting Format: Circles vs Grid
Precision Cell slides use printed counting circles that are primarily used for reporting formed elements such as cells and casts per high-power field (HPF), where the circle defines a consistent observation area. Precision Grid slides use a grid layout, which is more suitable for enumerating bacteria, crystals, and other particulate elements where structured counting improves accuracy. Both formats maintain the same chamber volume of 6.3 µL and the same 10-chamber configuration.
System Selection: Individual Components vs Complete Kits
Urinalysis products are available either as individual components or as complete systems. Complete kits include the slide, a calibrated transfer pipette, and a urine collection cup, providing a fully standardized workflow for clinical laboratories. Alternatively, laboratories can purchase slides and pipettes separately in bulk quantities to integrate into existing collection and handling systems.
Throughput and Workflow Efficiency
Each urinalysis slide contains 10 independent chambers, allowing up to 10 separate patient samples to be processed per slide. This configuration is designed for high-throughput clinical screening environments. In lower-volume settings, chambers may be used sequentially, provided proper sealing and handling protocols are followed between uses.

Globe Scientific Quick-Read urinalysis slides (for example, catalog #3805) are optically clear chamber slides with an integrated coverslip system that eliminates the need for manual coverslip placement. Each chamber contains a fixed and reproducible 6.3 µL volume of urine sediment, significantly reducing variability associated with traditional wet mount techniques, where inconsistent drop size and chamber depth can alter the number of visible formed elements.

Microscope Slides Accessories

What Are Microscope Slide Accessories?

Microscope slide accessories are the consumables and tools that support slide handling across three workflow stages: staining and processing, specimen transport, and archival storage. This category at MBP includes Coplin staining jars (for vertical-immersion staining), 20-place portable slide file holders (for case transport), flip-top and polypropylene screw-cap slide mailers (for inter-lab shipping), slide dispensers with up to 72-slide capacity (for bench-top access during staining), and expandable slide storage cabinets (for growing archival collections). Select accessories by workflow stage: Coplin jars for staining, mailers for shipping, dispensers for bench access, and file holders or cabinets for archiving.

Staining: Coplin Jars Coplin staining jars are vertical-slot containers that hold 5–10 slides facing outward, immersing them simultaneously in staining reagents — haematoxylin, eosin, Gram stains, silver stains, and alcohols. Glass Coplin jars are solvent-resistant for xylene and all laboratory alcohols; polypropylene versions are suitable for aqueous and mildly solvent-containing reagents but are not xylene-compatible. Transport: Slide Mailers Three mailer types address different transport needs. Flip-top plastic mailers are reusable for short-range intra-facility transport. Polypropylene mailers with red screw caps provide a leak-proof sealed closure for shipping biological specimens. Cardboard mailers offer a lower-cost option for non-biohazardous, short-distance lab-to-lab sharing. Bench Access: Slide Dispensers Slide dispensers hold up to 72 slides in a tilted stack, dispensing one slide at a time from the front with one-handed access. This prevents contamination from repeatedly handling the full slide stack and reduces breakage during high-volume staining sessions. Archiving: 20-Place File Holders and Cabinets Twenty-place slide file holders accommodate a single case's slides in a flat, portable format suitable for filing or transporting a patient case. Expandable slide storage cabinets provide modular drawer-based storage for collections that grow over time, holding 100–500+ slides per cabinet unit.

Specifications Context

Glass Coplin jars are resistant to xylene, acetone, and all laboratory alcohols. Polypropylene Coplin jars tolerate aqueous and mildly solvent-containing stains but are NOT compatible with xylene — use glass jars for any step involving xylene or halogenated solvents. Polypropylene screw-cap slide mailers from MBP provide a leak-resistant sealed closure for shipping slides containing biological specimens; labs shipping Category B biological substances should confirm UN3373 / IATA P650 compliance of their complete packaging before shipping. Slide dispensers at MBP hold up to 72 standard 25×75mm slides.
