What Are Individual PCR Tubes?


Individual PCR tubes are single-reaction thin-wall polypropylene vessels supplied separately rather than in strip or plate format. The 0.2 mL format is the global standard for modern thermal cyclers with conventional 96-well block geometry, while 0.5 mL tubes are used with older or specially adapted blocks. Individual tubes offer the flexibility to set up any number of reactions without being constrained to a strip of 8 or 12, making them ideal for one-off reactions, optimisation runs, and protocols requiring varied tube counts. The 0.2 mL tube fits virtually all modern thermal cycler blocks, including Bio-Rad T100, Eppendorf Mastercycler NEO, and Applied Biosystems Veriti. The 0.5 mL tube is used with specific gradient blocks or older instruments; confirm block compatibility before ordering this format.

Attached Cap vs No Cap
Tubes with attached dome caps offer convenience and prevent cap mix-ups during high-volume workflows. Tubes with flat attached caps or sold without caps (requiring separate cap purchase) are chosen when flat optical caps or coloured caps are needed for tube tracking.

Colour Options
Coloured individual tubes (clear, white, yellow, red, blue, green) allow colour-based sample tracking without labelling, particularly useful in high-throughput genotyping or multiplex PCR workflows where visual differentiation reduces setup errors.

Polypropylene Grade
