Bulk & Racked Pipette Tips for High-Volume Laboratory Use

Bulk and racked pipette tips are universal-fit polypropylene tips packaged either in 96-tip hinged racks ready for manual pipetting or in high-count bulk bags for non-sterile dispensing workflows, spanning volumes from 10 µL to 1,250 µL. Racked tips offer autoclavable frames, alphanumeric position grids, and sterile certification; bulk bags deliver the lowest cost per tip for routine buffer and media work where sterility is not required.

MBP Inc. stocks Globe Scientific, Nest Scientific, and Sorenson Bioscience, racked and bulk tips for labs across the USA and Canada, with case-quantity pricing and PO purchasing for institutional procurement teams. Contact customerservice@mbpinc.net  to request a quote today!

What Are Bulk & Racked Pipette Tips?

Racked pipette tips are pre-loaded into a 96-position hinged polypropylene rack (8 rows × 12 columns), matched to standard single-channel and 8-channel multichannel pipette workflows. Bulk tips are supplied as loose tips in resealable bags of 500–1,000 or more, intended for self-loading into existing rack frames or bulk-bag dispensers. For labs that discard full racks after each use, bulk bags offer a significant reduction in per-tip cost; for labs requiring sterile, pre-organised tips, hinged racks are the standard. Choose racked tips for sterile/organised workflows; choose bulk bags when sterility is not required and cost per tip is the primary driver.

What You Will Find:

  • Standard Universal Tips – Medical-grade pipette tips ranging from 0.1uL to 5000uL for broad multi-brand compatibility.
  • Low Retention Tips – Engineered with hydrophobic surfaces to ensure maximum sample recovery and zero liquid hang-up.
  • Extended Length Tips – Specialized long-reach designs for safe, contamination-free sampling from deep vessels and tubes.
  • Racked Sterile Tips – Pre-loaded, RNase/DNase-free formats for immediate use in sensitive molecular workflows.
  • Bulk Non-Sterile Tips – High-volume, economical supply bags for routine laboratory applications and high-throughput use.
  • Empty Tip Boxes – Durable, reusable racks designed for organized storage and seamless integration with reload systems.

How to Choose Between Bulk and Racked Formats

Sterility Requirements
Racked tips are available pre-sterilised (EO or gamma) and are individually certified DNase-free, RNase-free, ATP-free, human DNA-free, and PCR inhibitor-free per lot — required for cell culture, PCR setup, RNA work, and any sterility-sensitive application. Bulk bag tips are typically non-sterile; they can be autoclaved by the user at 121°C (15 psi, 15 min) before use if sterility is needed, though autoclaving adds handling time.

Throughput and Format
Racked 96-tip formats support 8-channel multichannel pipetting with aligned well positions. Bulk bags are efficient for single-channel repetitive dispensing where tips are picked individually. For high-throughput multichannel workflows, the Refill Station (reload insert) format combines the alignment benefits of a rack with the lower cost of bulk supply.

Volume Range
10 µL tips: for P2, P10 single-channel pipettes, microvolume dispensing, sequencing gel loading. 200 µL tips: the highest-volume format in most research labs — P20, P100, P200 range. 1,000 µL / 1,250 µL tips: for P1000 pipettes; available in standard and extended-length formats for deep-tube access. Standard-length tips suit standard Eppendorf and Falcon tubes; extended-length tips reach 15 mL and 50 mL conical tube bottoms.

Autoclavable Racks
Polypropylene hinged racks withstand repeated autoclave cycles at 121°C without dimensional distortion. Confirm the rack material is PP (not polystyrene) before autoclaving — PS racks deform under steam sterilisation.

Pack Sizes and Case Economics
Standard racked packs: 96 tips/rack × 10 racks/box × 10 boxes/case = 9,600 tips/case for 200 µL format. Bulk bags: 500 or 1,000 tips/bag; cases of 10 bags = 5,000–10,000 tips at significantly lower cost per tip.

Specifications Context

Racked tips from Globe Scientific, Nest Scientific, and Sorenson Bioscience are manufactured from USP Class VI virgin polypropylene in Class 100,000 cleanroom conditions. Sterile racked tips are EO-sterilised or gamma-irradiated to SAL 10⁻³ to 10⁻⁶ depending on specification. Bulk tips are moulded from the same virgin PP feedstock and are suitable for autoclaving at 121°C/250°F, 15 psi, 15 minutes maximum. Globe Scientific and Nest Scientific racks and bulk formats are among the most widely distributed in North American research labs.

FAQ

Racked pipette tips are pre-loaded in a 96-position hinged polypropylene rack, providing sterile, aligned access for single-channel and 8-channel multichannel pipetting. Bulk tips are loose in resealable bags of 500–1,000 for self-loading into existing racks or single-channel use, offering the lowest cost per tip for non-sterile routine workflows.
Racked pipette tips are available in both sterile (EO-sterilised or gamma-irradiated, DNase/RNase-free) and non-sterile formats. Sterile racked tips are the correct choice for PCR setup, cell culture, RNA handling, and any sterility-sensitive application. Bulk bag tips are typically non-sterile but can be autoclaved by the user at 121°C, 15 psi, 15 minutes.
Bulk pipette tips manufactured from virgin polypropylene can be autoclaved by the user at 121°C (250°F), 15 psi, for a maximum of 15 minutes. Do not place any material on the tips during autoclaving to avoid tip deformation. Confirm the tip material is polypropylene — polystyrene tips cannot be autoclaved.
Bulk and racked universal fit tips span 10 µL (for P2/P10 pipettes), 200 µL (P20–P200), and 1,000–1,250 µL (P1000) volume ranges. Extended-length 200 µL and 1,000 µL tips are available for reaching deep into 15 mL and 50 mL conical tubes without repositioning the tube.
A standard case of 200 µL racked pipette tips contains 9,600 tips: 96 tips per rack × 10 racks per box × 10 boxes per case. The 10 µL racked format typically packs 960 tips per box (96 × 10 racks). MBP Inc. offers case-quantity pricing — use Quick Order or contact the team for PO purchasing.
Racked 96-tip racks are aligned in 8-row × 12-column format, allowing direct 8-channel multichannel pipette loading without tip repositioning. Bulk bag tips are designed for single-channel use; for multichannel multichannel use from a bulk supply, load tips into a compatible 96-well rack frame before pipetting.
Bulk and racked universal fit tips from Globe Scientific, Nest Scientific, and Sorenson Bioscience use standard collar geometry compatible with Eppendorf Research Plus, Rainin Classic (non-LTS), Thermo Finnpipette, Sartorius/BioHit, and VWR pipettes. They are not compatible with Rainin LTS pipettes.
Sterile racked pipette tips from Globe Scientific, Nest Scientific, and Sorenson Bioscience are certified DNase-free, RNase-free, ATP-free, human DNA-free, pyrogen-free, and PCR inhibitor-free per lot. Manufactured from USP Class VI virgin polypropylene in Class 100,000 cleanroom conditions.
The reload insert system is the better choice when a lab consumes multiple cases of tips per month — the insert replaces only the tip tray rather than the full rack, cutting plastic waste by up to 60% and reducing per-tip cost. For lower-volume labs or where sterile pre-racked convenience is the priority, full hinged racks remain simpler.
