Ultraviolet Chamber Accessories

What Are Ultraviolet Chamber Accessories?

Ultraviolet chamber accessories are the consumable and add-on components that maintain or extend the functionality of benchtop UV-C decontamination chambers: replacement 254 nm UV-C lamps, interior shelving for multi-level item loading, hanging rods for suspending small tools at optimal irradiation distance, and turntables for rotating items during exposure cycles. Accessories are model-specific—interior shelf dimensions and lamp socket specifications vary by UV chamber manufacturer and model—so correct identification of the chamber model is required before ordering replacements or additions.

How to Choose UV Chamber Accessories

Replacement Lamp Compatibility
A 254 nm UV-C replacement lamp must match the original lamp's physical dimensions, socket type (typically G13 bi-pin), wattage, and voltage rating (115V 60Hz or 230V 50Hz). Using a non-OEM lamp that differs in output wavelength, intensity, or physical fit can alter the chamber's validated decontamination dose and may void manufacturer performance guarantees.
When to Replace UV-C Lamps
Most UV-C germicidal lamps are rated for approximately 9,000–12,000 hours of operation before output falls to 80% of initial intensity—the threshold at which germicidal effectiveness is considered compromised. Labs with high-frequency daily cycling should track accumulated operating hours rather than relying solely on a fixed calendar replacement schedule. Verify lamp output with a 254 nm UV-C radiometer annually regardless of hours used.
Shelf Dimensions and Load Capacity
Interior shelves are dimensioned to fit the specific chamber's interior width, depth, and height. Before ordering, measure the internal chamber dimensions or reference the chamber's accessory guide. Confirm the shelf's load rating against the heaviest items you intend to process—glass instruments and metal tools can be heavier than expected.
Hanging Rod Applications
Hanging rods are most valuable for cylindrical or narrow items (tweezers, forceps, dissecting tools, pipette sleeves, small tubing) where horizontal placement creates a shadow zone on the underside. Hanging vertically exposes the full circumference to UV-C light.

Specifications Context

UV-C lamps degrade gradually—output at 254 nm typically falls to 80% of initial value at the rated lamp life (usually 9,000–12,000 hours), at which point replacement is recommended to maintain documented decontamination efficacy. Lamp degradation is not visible to the naked eye; labs operating under GLP or GMP guidelines should verify lamp output using a calibrated 254 nm radiometer or UV intensity meter annually and document results. As of 2026, some UV chamber manufacturers provide RFID-enabled lamp modules that log cumulative operating hours and alert users when replacement thresholds are reached.
