Borosilicate glass is inert to HCl, H₂SO₄, HNO₃, CH₃COOH, NaOH, acetone, ethanol, methanol, and xylene. Hydrofluoric acid (HF) must not be used with glass as it dissolves silica-based materials. These beakers are suitable for autoclaving at 121&deg;C (wet cycle) and dry-heat sterilisation up to 500&deg;C.
