Choose amber glass when the reagent specification or manufacturer's instructions recommend light protection. Wide-Mouth vs. Standard Neck Standard-neck media bottles are suited for liquid-to-liquid transfers and dispensing. Wide-mouth media bottles allow easier filling with solid powder media (agar, broth powder, salt), scooping viscous materials, and thorough cleaning &mdash; preferred for culture media preparation where media powder is dissolved directly in the bottle. Graduated vs. Non-Graduated Graduated media bottles have approximate volume markings for guidance during media preparation without a separate measuring cylinder. Markings are typically &plusmn;5% and are not certified for precision volumetric work. Cap and Pouring Ring PP screw caps are autoclavable at 121&deg;C. Loosen caps one quarter-turn before autoclaving to allow steam pressure equalisation. Some formats include a pouring ring insert on the neck interior that prevents liquid from running down the outside of the bottle when dispensing.
