What are 3D rocker accessories?

3D rocker accessories are the interchangeable tube holders, platform mats, and container-retention clips that allow a 3D rocking platform to be used with different vessel types beyond flat trays resting directly on the platform surface. Tube holder accessories fix microcentrifuge, 15 mL, or 50 mL conical tubes in defined positions on the platform, enabling the 3D rocking motion to agitate tube contents without requiring a separate tube rotator. Non-slip platform mats grip trays, gel boxes, and flat containers by friction, preventing them from sliding during rocking. Container clips secure the edges of blot containers or larger trays at higher speeds.

How to choose 3D rocker accessories

Match tube holder accessories to your tube size and the rocker model
Tube holders for 3D rockers are designed for specific tube formats — microcentrifuge (1.5 mL and 2 mL), 15 mL conical, and 50 mL conical — and attach to the platform via a platform-specific mounting system. Confirm that the tube holder accessory is listed as compatible with your specific 3D rocker model, since mounting systems vary between manufacturers.
Use a non-slip mat for flat containers at low to moderate rocking speeds
A non-slip silicone or rubber platform mat holds flat trays and gel boxes by friction at rocking speeds up to approximately 20–25 rpm, suitable for most blot and gel incubation applications. At higher speeds or steeper tilt angles, the tray may slide despite the mat, and dedicated container clips provide more secure retention.
Choose container clips or tray holders for heavier or larger containers
For large gel staining dishes or containers with significant weight or liquid volume that might slide on the platform, dedicated container clips or tray holder frames that attach to the platform edges provide secure retention at any rocking speed. These are important when working with larger format blots or multiple staining trays simultaneously.
Consider a multi-format accessory kit for maximum versatility
A set covering a non-slip mat, microcentrifuge tube holder, and 50 mL conical tube holder allows the same 3D rocker to serve flat-surface and tube-mixing applications without separate orders per format, and is the standard starting accessory purchase for a new 3D rocker installation.
Verify material compatibility with your lab cleaning agents
Platform mats and tube holders are typically made from polypropylene, silicone, or polyurethane, and should be compatible with your lab disinfectants. Silicone mats resist common lab disinfectants; check materials for compatibility with bleach-based or solvent-based cleaning protocols used.

Specifications context

Tube holders for 3D rocking platforms must secure tubes against centrifugal and gravitational forces during the tilting cycle, and the holder's design determines the maximum safe rocking speed. As of 2026, universal tube holders fitting multiple formats from a single base mount have become available, reducing the number of separate accessories needed for labs mixing different tube sizes on the same 3D rocker.

Dimpled mat

The Labnet Dimpled Mat by Labnet International is a replacement dimpled mat matched to the Labnet GyroMini nutating mixer. The GyroMini is supplied with a dimpled mat whose pattern lets blood tubes and centrifuge tubes sit securely on the platform, in most cases without extra strapping. Lab managers order a spare to replace a worn, lost or contaminated mat.
