|Description||The E. coli CRISPR Knockout Teaching Kit allows students to gain hands-on laboratory experience utilizing CRISPR – a revolutionary gene-editing technique. In this robust experiment, the student performs a gene knockout of a genomically-encoded chloramphenicol-resistance cassette employing CRISPR and lambda red recombineering (see our Knockout Case Study for details). This results in E. coli that is now sensitive to the antibiotic chloramphenicol – a phenotype that can be easily screened for. The experiment is carried out in a safe laboratory strain of E. coli (BSL-1) and uses standard microbiological/molecular biology reagents and equipment allowing for ease of implementation in most teaching labs.|
